Old Eating Habits Die Hard At Baby Boomer Life

Raw Food For Thirty Days?  Have mercy! Who says old eating habits die hard?  I do!

It is difficult to break the automatic cycle of "open mouth insert food" that happens multiple times each day in my household.  The unnerving thing is that when I find myself in one of these cycles!

Listen to the endless mindchatter…."Where are those oatmeal cookies?  I need some chocolate (organic of course). What do you mean "no more everything bagels"? "  Such deprivation.  "Now buck up here woman and get a backbone! What kinda boomer am I anyway?  Healthy and wealthy or broken and broke?"  (Gotta love that self talk.)

Yes, I have my moments, but it is true. Going raw -for all it's many benefits-absolutely requires serious commitment. I imagine I am doing better than most  boomers for several reasons. I do this thing called healthy eating reinforcement:

  • I believe in the many benefits of organic whole foods.
  • I lose weight when I eat raw.
  • I write about raw food.
  • I speak about the raw food diet to the public.
  • I feel great when I eat 75% + whole organic and raw foods.

There is no mistaking the value but-BIG BUT- and no pun intended-what a pain in the A double S.  You have to laugh at us crazy humans.  We are warring within over a no-contest issue: Raw Food is pure health!

We have to be strong. We have to support each other. Until you get back in the habit and past the cravings, it can try the heck out of your very soul.  Does anybody know what I mean?

The question is "why"?  Where is the delema over choosing healthy and slim over tired, sick and overweight? Go figure……….

The other thing is eliminating the alcohol.  I do enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine and I look forward to it at the end of the day.  I feel so deprived with all this goody goody diet behavior.  And the joy of an ice cold brew!  I love a tasty Stella Artois.  Just one you know, but I do enjoy that.  Actually my favorite is an ice cold Stella and a delicious homemade cheeseburger with tomato, lettuce and mayo.  Arrrgghhhhhhhhhh!  Did I say that?

I know, go ahead and beat me with a feather.  I am torturing myself.  However, I am definitely going to go downstairs and prepare some crunchy munchies like baby carrots and sliced apples, and Earthbound Organic mixed greens salad with all organic toppings as well. For example- raw pecans, cranberries, red onion slices, crumpled goat feta cheese, chopped celery, sliced cuccumber, some grape tomatoes, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, and a touch of celtic sea salt.  Don't forget the Calamata olives.  To top it off, I may even eat two bowls! This is healthy eating.  Let's hear it for raw food!

The thing is those old bad habits do die hard and we have to be in control of our actions.  Damn!  No matter how I try I just can't let myself off the hook.  "If it's to be, it's up to me."  I'm not sure who said it but it's true.

Tonight I am making my Vita-Mix Gazpacho and some Portobello Sandwiches with thirst quenching lemon water.  I decided I'm saving the cheeseburger and beer for July fourth!  It's called delayed gratification.

I know; I am SOO BAAAD!  Whatever works, right?

P.S. This is what happens when I run out of Isagenix. I get "bad for me" food cravings because my nutritional needs aren't being met and I (of all people) know better!
