Baby Boomer Life-Getting Younger
Get Flash to see this player.
One thing for certain in the Baby Boomer Life is that all of us are determined to live longer and live healthier with a vision toward retaining our physical strength and flexibility far beyond what had been considered the norm for previous generations. Independence and interdependence being our active motto as opposed to dependence and co-dependence and you can forget the “Depends”!
Which brings me to my thoughts today about wellness and strength. Crossing the "fifty" line a few years back I was blessed to be actively working out daily twenty minutes to an hour five or six days a week. I stayed strong and fit by using the gym, walking, doing push-ups and lunges. At times in the past year I have found myself busy, preoccupied with other things and sometimes lazy. Occasionally I would put on a few pounds and focus on taking it off but had a hard time getting back in the routine that worked so well for so long. I had a teenage daughter, etc. so you know how that goes.
Naturally, weight creeps on slowly and comes off even more slowly. Inevitably, the clothes become less comfortable and slowly you ease into the larger sizes and gradually you experience less energy and more lethargy and a need for more sleep that never seems to be fulfilled. Well that has been my experience anyway.
So I get myself back into the gym routine a minimum of three times a week , the Health Bounce mini trampoline, the push-ups (of which I can do 10 military style right here and now on command) and the lunges and some martial arts side kicks. But here's the clincher: The Total Gym is the home equipment of choice for me and my partner. We pull that out and put it back in action. I started walking again instead of constantly jumping into the car for every little errand. Put up reminder stickies all over the house to encourage myself and before you know it-Viola! I am back to my old self and it works that way over and over again. The weight falls off, the appetite drops, and the energy peaks. I like it. I feel good. I do still need a good nights sleep but I wake up at six or six thirty feeling fabulous. That’s the way, uh huh, uh huh, I like it……(remember that song?)
Anyway, I have proven to myself repeatedly that nothing works as well as a consistent fitness routine and that I must incorporate the gym with a home routine to get the maximum benefits. I get back into my size sixes and my libido gets back in shape too. That’s the way, uh huh, uh huh, I like it………
Recently,I heard some solid confirmation of the plan I’ve been using from a Neal Boortz interview with Chris Crowley the author of Younger Next Year (they’re calling it the “Boomer Bible”) and it seems like my plan is the one that works in his experience too. I like that. Chris is a few years older chronologically but mentally we seem to be on the same page.
Strength training and low impact cardio on a regular basis every day just like brushing my teeth, showering, and cleaning up the kitchen after cooking. What is so hard about remembering that? Which of those things and many others we do each day, is more important than our strength, wellness, energy and sense of well being?
There is no more beneficial way to deal with eliminating stress and it’s side effects. I am sure of that. I have lived it. Folks, have I ever lived it and I bet you know what I mean too!
I am certain that if you follow my experience with a plan of your own you will see that all I have said is true and then your dietary program will also change naturally as you desire less of the wrong foods and need less food except the stuff that makes you feel good. As Boomers I feel certain that you already have a handle on what those healthy foods are because the info is everywhere on the net.
Living the energetic Baby Boomer Life is about understanding cleansing and strength training. If you are looking for a great internal cleansing program to jump start a new effort for the upcoming spring, please check out my boomer buddy Dr. Schultz at www.herbdoc.com and do an organ cleanse that will make you feel like a kid again. I love this man’s commitment to wellness. His organ cleansing program works great with a new fitness regime.
For crying out loud, don’t forget the pure, clean water in more than adequate amounts and check out the work of Dr. Patrick Flanagan. He’s one of us boomers and was a child prodigy-a genius. His work is ongoing and his products are incredibly helpful to our youthful boomer cause.
Another product I found for daily nutrition and cleansing that has become very important to my energetic status is Isagenix and I found that through of group of friends I met while attending a series of seminars. I go to a site called Isagenix and we love these products because we make a shake in the morning, add our frozen organic berries, an organic apple and it is the best fast breakfast we can consume with everything we need nutritionally in our morning meal. The flavor is great and it supports our intention to cleanse and lose weight while being as energetic as possible. What’s not to love?
Like you, I don’t mind aging as long as I do it well, with style and energy and a zest for life that never leaves my body and mind. That’s the way, uh huh, uh huh, I like it ………!!!
Let’s help each other. This is why I love the net and the opportunity to reach so many people. Let me know your ideas too because I am open to new, fun ways of staying fit.
My partner and I are starting to hike again this spring. We are looking into new dance lessons too.
Like, why not? How about you?
